International Peace Day
The International Peace Day was celebrated by students, parents and teachers on September 29, 2012, at Apeejay School, Saket. The programme started with a projection of two short video films on ‘Peace One Day’ produced by students. This was followed by a melodious chorus with inspiring lyrics on peace and harmony in nature and humanity at large. The message of peace at the individual, social and global level was depicted through a short skit, poem recitation and chanting of ‘Shanti Path’. Students of the primary wing dressed as apostles of peace from different parts of the world and religion conveyed the message of brotherhood and oneness. The thought of unity in diversity, unanimity and love was communicated beautifully through a synchronized dance performance.
The gathering then moved towards the specially erected peace pole, a symbol of wish for world peace, where they lit candles .This was followed by tying of peace bands and pinning of peace badges under the peace tree, with symbols of different religions hanging from its branches. Everyone shared a cup of tea and expressed their views about the necessity of sowing the seeds of peace and harmony in society.
The group led by the Principal, parents ,students and teachers carrying placards with messages of peace, proceeded for a peace march in the neighbourhood area.
The students of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya , a government school in the neighbourhood too joined hands with us in this endeavor of celebration of International Peace Day.
Dr. Stya Paul Memorial Mathematics Quest
As part of Silver Jubilee celebration the school organized the first Dr. Stya Paul Memorial Quest on 18th and 19th October 2012. Twenty nine schools from across Delhi and NCR participated in the two day event.
Prof. Parveen Sinclair, Director, NCERT, graced the occasion as the chief guest. At the inaugural function the students gave splendid presentations on the Mathematics in Beauty, dance and music.
Prof. Parveen launched the first issue of the bi-annual mathematics newsletter- ‘MatheMaxim’, a brave initiative by the school. Five competitions testing the mathematical prowess and abilities of participating students were conducted. These were Symposium, ‘Aakar Parivar’, Sudoku, Quiz, and model making. Apeejay School, Faridabad bagged the ‘Dr. Stya Paul Memorial Mathematics Quest 2012 trophy’.
The second day provided teachers from all participating schools an opportunity to enhance their skill and learn Geogebra- a software to teach/learn Mathematics. Dr P.K Chaurasia, Assistant Professor NCERT, was the resource person for the workshop. The 3 hour, hands-on workshop was extremely well received by the teachers.
The event was a great success.
