New Delhi, January 16, 2014: A workshop on ’Theatre in Education’ workshop was organised by the British High Commission from 13th Jan. to 16th Jan. 2014. Mrs. Seema Chauhan, along with 30 participants from all over the country, got the opportunity to attend the same. Some of them were theatre enthusiasts. The resource persons were Chris and Rebecca from the Royal Shakespearean Company.
A number of activities were organised to encourage the pupils to engage in Shakespeare’s plays. Famous scenes from the plays were enacted and practical approaches to Macbeth were also discussed and dramatised and how to involve pupils in classroom rehearsals. The focus was on Shakespearean language and how the language unlocks the understanding of the young people. Various innovative activities were conducted to introduce plays and its theme to young learners. It gave a platform to exchange thoughts, self-expression & enhanced the skills of participants and also highlighted theatre as a powerful medium in education.
