New Delhi, October 19, 2013: Students of Apeejay School, Pitampura, along with their teachers – Mrs. Malini Sridhar, Mrs. Sangeeta Gupta and Mr. Sudhir Ranjan, attended a seminar on ‘Role of Women in Peace & Non-Violence and Responsibility of Police, Paramilitary & Armed Forces’ at Vigyan Bhawan. The seminar was organised by Special Study Expert Committee and Special Task Force (Rape, Trafficking and Violence against women). Delegates from all over India belonging to CRPF, NCC, SSB, BSF, Air Force, Navy and Police were present at the seminar.

The event commenced with an insightful documentary titled ‘Khakee – The Pride of India’. The chief guest for the event was Mrs. Gursharan Kaur, wife of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the honourable Prime Minister of India. Post the lighting of the lamp by the eminent personalities present on the dais, Ms. Kiran Mehra presented the UN secretary general’s message on peace and non-violence asserting that, “Violence can be contagious but so can be dialogues of peace”. This was followed by a keynote address by Mrs. Mamta Sharma, the Chairperson of National Commission for Women, wherein she asserted the significance of what Mahatma Gandhi said a long time back.

Some brave and hard working IPS officers were felicitated by the chief guest, Mrs. Gursharan Kaur, followed by an address by Madam President of Apeejay Education Society, Mrs. Sushma Berlia. The interaction was nothing short of an inspiration for the students.
