New Delhi, July 10, 2015: Apeejay School, Pitampura has been actively participating in the programmes associated with Special Olympics Bharat since 2011. It is a lead school in Project Unify - A leadership Programme. On the same lines, a Youth Activation Programme was organised in the School which aimed towards promotion of social inclusion.

Special Olympics Bharat is a movement that uses sports as a catalyst to transform the lives of children and adults with intellectual disability. 32 youth leaders from Apeejay School, Pitampura and 15 athletes (intellectually challenged) from Purthi School, Ashok Vihar participated in a day-long workshop held in the school premises. The workshop was organised to activate the youth leaders in view of strengthening their role in Global Special Olympics Programme. It also sent a strong message to the society to recognise and accept the difference between the intellectually challenged children and the normal children. The student leaders and the athletes also played Unified Ice Breaking and Bocce games.

They were then engaged in a planning session for the signature campaign held on 25th July 2015 in Apeejay School, Pitampura. This session not only removed the barriers between the two groups but also, active participation of the athletes was an eye opener which proved that if given an opportunity they can also be a part of the mainstream group.
