Special Olympics Bharat is a movement that uses sports as a catalyst to transform the lives of children and adults with intellectual disability. Apeejay School, Pitampura has been actively participating in the programmes associated with Special Olympics Bharat since 2010. It is a lead school in Project UNIFY - A Leadership Programme.

It promotes social inclusion between individuals with and without intellectual disabilities through sports. Apeejay School, Pitampura students are active members of a ‘Unified Generation’ helping to include them in several mainstream regular activities like Sports Day, Exhibitions and Leadership Workshops. Through this collaboration, the School hopes to empower students with the core values of compassion and empathy.

Since the commencement of this project, the School has been involved in a plethora of activities. The youth leaders of the School took a step ahead by conducting a Workshop to introduce the concept of Inclusion through Special Olympics in Bal Bharati School, Pitampura. They have volunteered for various programmes organised by Special Olympics Bharat.

In the year 2016-17, the School achieved a milestone as Parth Agrawal of Class XI was selected (out of 170 entries from around the world) to participate in GenUin Summit - Leadership Program organised along with Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 held in Austria. He got an opportunity to present his project on ‘Skill Development among Special Children’ at the Youth Summit. He, along with a special child, Neeraj from Upasana School and the teacher mentor, Mrs. Renu Nagpal attended the Youth Summit related to Winter Olympics from 15th March – 25th March 2017. Parth shall also receive a grant of 2500 dollars to work on his project.

Parth’s enthusiasm for the cause was appreciated and out of all the entries he was the only one to be selected as a co-moderator (anchor) for a ‘Unified Talk Show’ in which he shared the stage with Apolo Ohno, an eight time medalist for Speed Skating in Winter Olympics. The programme was telecasted live worldwide.
