Apeejay School, Pitampura provided the perfect backdrop for the launch of Project UNIFY an initiative of Special Olympics on 17 July 2012. Participants and teachers from leading schools of Delhi were awakened to the need of using sports as a tool to forge friendships and contribute to make a difference in schools and communities.
Air Marshal S.K.Malik, President of Special Olympics Bharat, Delhi chapter and Air Marshal H.S.Garkal, Vice President along with their team of volunteers and coaches sensitized the young students to be active participants in inclusive growth. They launched various projects amidst much fanfare with an active collaboration from the Interact Club of Apeejay School, Pitampura. Principal D.K.Bedi, always ready to take on community based youth initiatives, exhorted the students to think beyond narrow borders and prejudices and rise in life to do something meaningful for mankind. Special Olympics Bharat provides sports training and competition opportunities in 35 state programs and has 22 official sports to reach out to intellectually disabled children with an aim to draw their potential to the fullest. The school pledged full support and cooperation in all its initiatives.
