New Delhi, Oct. 2, 2018: On 2nd October 2018, on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Manan Chawla & Samiya Malhotra of Class IX and Mrs Sarika Minocha from Apeejay School, Pitampura, got a golden opportunity to witness the inauguration ceremony of Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA), IORA Renewable Energy Ministerial Meet and Global RE-Invest 2018. The Meet was inaugurated by The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narender Modi, in the august presence of Mr Antonio Guterres, Secretary General, United Nations and Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of External Affairs and other prominent leaders of different countries at the Vigyan Bhawan. The Prime Minister inaugurated all the three meets and addressed the gathering about the future plans of using renewable energy in our country. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that in the last 150 to 200 years, mankind has depended on fossil fuels for energy needs. He said nature is now indicating that options such as solar, wind and water offer more sustainable energy solutions.

It was a wonderful opportunity for Samiya Malhotra to showcase her lamp in front of the Prime Minister (she was selected among 105 students from various schools of Delhi-NCR). The group of 105 students lit the Solar Study Lamp at the inaugural function. On this special day, the feat was achieved when over 1.25 lakh students from 850 schools across the country participated in the ‘Solar Student Ambassador’ Workshop wherein they learnt to build a solar LED lamp in association with IIT Bombay. The event was awarded a certificate for ‘The Most LED Lights lit simultaneously was achieved by IIT Bombay and Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’ by the adjudicating officer from the Guinness World Records.
