A group of seven students of 10th standard along with Mrs Renu Nagpal participated in18th Student Leaders Convention (SLC) which was organized and hosted by Hwa Chong Institution,’a Singapore High School from 29th May to 1st June 2012. The theme of the convention was Generation Zero- Becoming One. It aimed at encouraging student leaders to be more aware of pertinent problems of the society and initiate change by influencing the youth at large to come together and bring a difference to their schools and communities. Student representatives from all parts of the world were invited. Apart from providing a platform for youth leaders from different cultures to interact, SLC also provided an enriching and memorable experience for every participant.

The students were involved mainly in two activities-School Based Activity and the Community Based Activity. Each participant had the opportunity to participate in both the activities over the course of 4days convention. The discussion on the problems faced at community level ranged over a variety of issues such as Abuse of technology, Effect of negative media influence on youth, Underage sex – teenage pregnancies, adolescent abortions, Youth facing abuse- sexual, family , emotional etc.

Madam Halimah Yacob, Minister of State, Ministry of Community development, was invited to be the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony of the convention. She delivered an insightful speech on the Significance of the Community Involvement Programme and the qualities a student must possess to become a 21st century leader. In their free time, students explored Singapore and got an opportunity to know about the culture, cuisine and lifestyle of the people of Singapore.
