Second Consecutive Win: Dronninglund Cup
Denmark, July 9, 2017: The U10 Handball team of Apeejay School, Khargharwon the Dronninglund Cupfor the second consecutive year at the World Handball Tournament held at Denmark from 9th to 13th July 2017. The team had also participated in the Partille Cup Tournament at Sweden from 3rd to 9th July 2017 before proceeding to Denmark.
The team of nine students namely Walecha Shivansh, Khatib Afrah, Gaikwad Neha, Shah Arshiya, Upreti Ishaan, Soni Vamika, Jadhav Janhavi, Kumar Barkha and Kundar Niti performed admirably despite the strong competition and adverse weather conditions. They played a total of 9 matches against various international teams. Their relentless efforts enabled them to clinch the trophy by winning the final match against the host team, Denmark. Team work, perfect execution of strategies learnt and a ‘never-say-die’ attitude enabled the team to clinch this prestigious trophy.
The School Principal, Mrs. M.R. Shipley, who had accompanied the students, stated that such opportunities provide students a platform to learn about different cultures of the world and imbibe various values & skills which enable them to become global citizens. Mrs. Shipley thanked the Mumbai Handball Association for assisting in providing an opportunity to the students of the School to participate in this tournament thereby giving global exposure.
A grand felicitation was organised in the School to welcome the victorious team. Sweets were also distributed to staff and students of the School to mark this historic victory.

Glorious International Achievement by Apeejay School, Kharghar
Denmark, July 16, 2016: It was a moment of great pride for the nation and Apeejay School, Kharghar when the Under 10 Girls' Handball team won the Dronninglund Cup at the World Handball Tournament held at Denmark from 9th to 16th July 2016. The team, consisting of 8 students, included Aarushi Antil, Neelaksha Shailesh Gaikwad, Disha Vishesh Chadha, Chaarvi Ravindra Rathaur, Janice Andrea Sequeira, Minal Kiran Dusane, Shrushti Sham Gambhire and Vaani Sharma. The team had participated in the Partille Cup Tournament at Sweden for 7 days before proceeding to Denmark.
This was the first international exposure for the 10 year olds who had a competitive edge as they had been extensively trained by coaches, Mrs. Rashmi Barthwal and Mr. Pradnyanand Kamble. The girls had trained hard throughout the summer vacations and enhanced their skill in dribbling, shooting, goal keeping and giving passes. Their relentless efforts enabled the team to bring glory to India and their School.
The Principal, Mrs. Indu Mathur, who as Contingent Head had accompanied the students along with Mrs. Rashmi Barthwal, said that the international exposure built the confidence of the girls and helped them improve their game. They also learnt various strategies as they watched the other teams play. Mrs. Mathur expressed her gratitude to the Mumbai Handball Association, especially to the Secretary, Mr. Randhir Singh who was instrumental in sending this team to Denmark and Sweden.
She was also thankful to Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman of Apeejay Education Society, for her continuous encouragement and support. She also extended a special thanks to the parents for their faith in the School and students’ talents.
