MDP on Negotiation, Critical & Analytical Thinking Skills for Delegates of MoFA, Afghanistan

Kathmandu, July 13, 2019: A six-day MDP on ‘Negotiation, Critical & Analytical Thinking Skills’ was jointly conducted by the Apeejay School of Management, New Delhi and Uniglobe College, Kathmandu for delegates from MoFA, Afghanistan from 8 July 2019 to 13 July 2019. The training programme was conducted at the premises of Uniglobe College, Kathmandu. This training program also covered visit to SAARC Secretariat at Kathmandu.

The training programme kicked off with the session of Dr Radhe Shyam Pradhan, Academic Director, Uniglobe College. He introduced the concept of negotiation, touching on the topics like personal nature of negotiation, attitude and behaviour required for a successful negotiation, various types of negotiation, etc. Dr Shweta Jha, Associate Professor, Apeejay School of Management, New Delhi, added further to this session by making the participants realise how individuals behave during negotiation and how one should take decisions to have a win-win situation during negotiation. This was taught to them through a management game.

The other resource person who shared his views during the training programme included Dr Hem Raj Subedi, Professor, Department of Conflict and Peace, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, who dealt in details on components of negotiation, various styles of negotiation, non-negotiation techniques, etc.

Dr Khadga K.C., Professor, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, talked about the ‘Facets of Personality that affect Negotiation Approach and Temperament’. During his session he talked about emotional stability, conscientiousness, locus of control, self-monitoring and competitiveness that affect negotiation in an individual. Dr Dhruba K.C., Professor, Central Dept. of English, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, took a session on the importance of left brain and right brain in negotiation. General (Rtd.) Bala Nanda Sharma of the Nepal Army talked on the topic ‘How to Develop Your Effective Personal Negotiating Power’. During his interactive session, he mentioned his role as an Army General to negotiate with the Maoists in Nepal to bring peace in Nepal. His session was followed by a lengthy question and answer round wherein the participants tried to understand how Afghanistan can also combat insurgency.

Dr Shweta Jha took a detailed session on ‘Problem Identification, Decision Making, Critical and Analytical Thinking’. With the help of various cases, games and discussion, she made the students realise the significance of defining and framing the problem correctly and then thinking analytically to resolve it. She also helped the students identify the difference between critical and analytical thinking and their use in decision making.

All the sessions during the training programme were very interactive.
