RECENT EVENTS 16th STUDENTS LEADER CONVENTION [SLC], Singapore
Mrs. Babita Kathuria along with three students of class X namely Abharika Kamra, Ashna Vats and Lakshi Bhatia got the opportunity to attend 16th STUDENTS LEADER CONVENTION [SLC] at Hwa Chong school in SINGAPORE from June 1, 2010 to June 4, 2010.


It was a great learning experience. It was good to see that the whole convention was planned and organized by students in the age group of 14 – 16 years. The topic for the convention was ‘Social Media Issues in the New Era’. This years’ SLC aimed to focus on the issues generated due to social media and at the same time, work on how youths can take the best approach in solving them.

FACE TO FAITH: VIDEO CONFERENCING WITH CHRISTIAN BROTHERS SCHOOL, AUSTRALIA
On the 10th of May, students of our school interacted with the Christian Brothers School , Melbourne, Australia via Video Conferencing .The session was based on understanding culture . Discussion on the differences and similarities between the two schools took place. Pupils exchanged different practices followed in their cultures.


Festivals of both Catholic and Hindu religions were discussed. A healthy discussion regarding the racist attacks happening against the Indians in Australia took place. This video conferencing was a gaining experience for the students of our school.
ACE TO FAITH : VIDEO CONFERENCING ON MALARIA DAY
On 26th April 2010, our studets interacted with four schools and two Faith Act fellows through a video conferencing which was moderated by Ian Jamison. We all came together to discuss and share effective control over malaria , serious life taking disease. Our students interacted with two major Faith Act Fellows and discussed as well as questioned them about their work. Affordable and effective ways to control, protect and treat the disease were discussed. This video conferencing was a very informative, inspirational and profane experience for our students.


WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION DAY CELEBRATIONS
Our school celebrated World Health Organization day on 7th April 2010. A special assembly was conducted in which students showcased a cultural programme depicting the importance of Health. Mrs. Vandana Dharra addressed the gathering on ways to protect and promote health in cities .She explained that there is a need for . There is a need of a balance between work , commitment and health demands.

NURSERY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
The Orientation Programme for the new nursery entrants was inaugurated on Saturday 27th February, 2010. The inaugural address was presented by Mr. V.S. Garg (Chief Education Officer Apeejay Education Society) – on the topic: “Pivotal Role Parents play in Inculcating Values and an overview of Apeejay Education Society - Providing Educational opportunities for life”.
The other guest speakers for the day were Dr. Samir Parikh (Child Psychiatrist – Max Hospital) and Prof. C.R. Roy (Prof. Political Science - Delhi University).

The parents were addressed on topics related to the positive upbringing of the child. They were also presented with a folder carrying helpful anecdotes and constructive articles providing suggestions and solutions to problems faced by young parents.
There were two more interactive sessions for the parents, held on Saturday 13th March and Saturday 27th March respectively.

Interaction is the first step to built peaceful contacts around the globe. One such step was interaction between Apeejay School and St James School, UK on 1st Feb 2010 at 10:00 a.m. GMT. Mr. Ian Jamison was the Moderator of this VC and helped the students to learn about each other’s culture and views. St. James School gave a presentation about the school which gave a symphonies about their institutions and believes. The students talked about their experiences and co-curricular activities. The most amusing thing about St. James school was that they learnt Sanskrit. On asking about the reasons, they gave an interesting reply that many languages originate from Sanskrit. Students explored different perspectives and investigated global issues like recession.
It was really an enriching experience for the students and a big step towards breaking down barriers and changing the way they view the world.
ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

Our school celebrated its Annual Day in all its grandeur and gaiety on February 04, 2010. Mr. Masahiro Nagira, Deputy Director, Japan Information Centre and Ms. Typhaine and Ms. Solveigh from French Embassy of India, France were the esteemed guests of honour along with various other luminaries from the Management Committee and Directorate of Education.
The principal of the school, Shri D.K.Bedi presented the Annual Report of the school which highlighted the prominent achievements of the school during the year 2009-2010 in the scholastic and co-scholastic areas.
The academic and endowment awards were given away by the esteemed guests of honour to all the top scorers both in aggregate as well as in individual subject.
The cultural bonanza showcased the talent of multitude of students involving tiny tots to senior students. The exuberant celebration concluded with a reverberating potpourri presented by the students which set the stage ablaze.

TEACHER'S EXCHANGE PROGRAMME 2010

Apeejay School Pitampura played host to Ms. Kim Alden and Ms. Deborah Child from Sunny Bank High School, Queensland and Frankston High School , Melbourne , Australia who were our cherished guests from 13th January to 19th January 2010 as part of the Teacher Exchange programme. It was a wonderful opportunity for a stimulating interaction as they visited the classes and discussed current global events with the students.
They were highly impressed by the forthright and honest views of the students on international issues. They were full of appreciation for the hospitality and warmth that they enjoyed with their hosts- Ms. Praveen Kumari and Ms. Sarita Sehgal. The concept of celebrating Forgiveness Day & Thanksgiving Day in the school deeply touched their hearts.
PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATIONS
The Primary Department of Apeejay School, Pitampura organized Sports Day Celebrations on December 20, 2009. Dronacharya Awardee Mahabali Satpal, Additional Director of Education (Sports) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Mr. Charlie Walker Director, B.C.L and Arjuna Awardee Mr. Manjeet Dua, Former National Table Tennis Champion were the Guests of Honour. It was a memorable afternoon highlighting various events under the guidance of faculty members.

The Annual Sports Day is marked by colorful drill displays and various track and field events. The school band, dressed smartly in uniform, provides the beat to which the students march in true military precision. It was indeed an event worth watching when the students performed the stunts of Taekwondo.
The program included March past, Mass Yoga, Aerobics, Road Safety Drill apart from the track events. The students’ enthusiasm and vitality was seen in the various events that they had performed. Various sports themed dances and choir performances kept everyone spell bound.

FACE TO FAITH: VIDEO CONFERENCING WITH STROUD GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL, UK
On 8th December 2009, 22 Students from class 9th had an interactive Video Conferencing session with the students of Stroud Girls High School, Gloucestershire, UK under the programme Face to Faith. This programme encourage students to look beyond and facilitate them to explore different perspective from peers around the world.
Ms. Jo Malone was the moderator of this video conferencing session between two schools. She facilitated the conferencing. The children shared their views and thoughts about India's vivid culture, diversity in life forms, tradition, customs and morality.
Before video conferencing, the children had prepared few charts, collage, thinking caps etc. depicting the ethos of the school during the activities conducted in the class-room which they presented during their VC session.
The children interacted and discussed global issues like 'Climate Change', 'Role of West in South -East Asia' and 'Poverty'. The session finally came to an end with a rap song prepared and presented by Vishwajeet Singh which was highly applauded by the students of Stroud Girls High School and their teacher Ms. Julie Haigh.
The children would like to more of such video conferences which enables them to investigate big global issues and discuss a range of opinions, values and beliefs.
THE TIME TRAVELLERS - PRE PRIMARY ANNUAL DAY

The Pre Primary Annual Day - entitled The Time Travellers was held on 5th December 2009 where Ms Rittika C Paruck, Regional manager British Council did the honors as the chief guest. An enthralling performance on environment awareness was presented in which a meaningful message on resource utilization, conservation and maintenance of the ecological balance was given. Offering their tribute to the greatest pop star of the world, the children of KG classes danced to the tunes of Michael Jackson and stole the hearts of the audience with their spirited performance.
A WALK FOR WATER CONSERVATION
Apeejay School, Pitampura under the aegis of Apeejay Education Society (Svran Group) initiated a massive rally comprising 2200 enthusiastic students from Apeejay and dozens of other schools of Delhi & NCR to spread the message of Water Conservation on November 15th, 2009. The rally was flagged off by Mrs. Shiela Dixit, the Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi who congratulated the students for their ennobling concern for the environment.
The theme ‘JAL HAI TO KAL HAI’ reverberated as a clarion for humanity, as the 1.3 km stretch of the Rajpath came alive with colourful mascots, volunteers carrying placards, chanting slogans along with the band of Apeejay School, Pitampura exhorting them to march on. Young students danced rhythmically on ornately decorated trolleys, as a dexterous team of skaters drew attention of the public to their humanitarian cause.
Mrs. Sushma Berlia, Vice President of Apeejay Education Society, cheerfully walked along the students encouraging them to be a role model for the society and lauded their efforts as ‘ambassadors of change’.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP
Interact Club of Apeejay School; Pitampura organized a Blood Donation camp on Nov. 07, 2009 in the school premises. The camp was organised in association with the Rotary Blood Bank of Delhi.
The parents highly praised the noble deed where several people donated blood to save precious lives of the needy patients. A total of 76 people donated blood in this camp. Apeeay School, Pitampura is an active participant in arranging such community service initiatives from time to time. In view of the escalating maladies, health problems and trauma cases, demand for blood is on the rise. This action served a major support to the sick people of the society in emergent situations. Besides parents and faculty members, ancillary staff members were also encouraged to contribute towards the noble cause.
LITERARY WEEK 2009
Apeejay School, Pitampura rejoiced at its Annual Literary Week from 26th October to 31st October 2009 with an aim at tapping, recognizing and nurturing potentials of students and promoting their reading habits, creative thinking and ability to express themselves. The week was inaugurated by Mrs. Chitralekha Gurumurthy, the Director Academics, CBSE and the Principal Mr D.K.Bedi by ceremonial lighting of the lamp. During the weeklong programme many Inter-School and Inter-Class competitions were held. These competitions gave ample scope to students of varied
talents to come up and display their language & histrionic skills. Several leading schools of Delhi & NCR participated in these activities & showcased their multifaceted talents. Eminent journalists & educationists were invited to judge the talents of the students. Overall trophy of the Literary Week was won by Lancer’s Convent, Rohini for their brilliant performance during the week.The Literary Week was a tremendous success with immense fervor & excitement.
Founder’s Day celebrations at Apeejay School, Pitampura were characterized by multi-faceted activities like a spiritual song, an inspirational skit and a devout dance performance. October 4 carries a lot of importance for every Apeejayite as the day
marks the birthday of the founder of Apeejay Education Society, Dr. Stya Paul. This year also students of Apeejay School, Pitampura celebrated their revered chairman’s birthday with much zeal and passion. The Head Girl of the school delivered a speech highlighting the outstanding qualities and virtues of their leader, mentor and guide.
The Principal of the school announced the recipients of Dr. Stya Paul Award for human values from Middle, Senior Secondary and Senior wings. The award was instituted to acknowledge those students who have imbibed values like humility, happiness, co-operation, teamwork and modesty. The melodious rendition of ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ and presentation of Krishna Vandana in the form of a classical dance captured the mood of the occasion. The skit presented by the school students titled upon the school’s dictum ‘Soaring High is my Nature.’ inspired every student to be firmly determined towards their goals. Mrs. Nalini Singh, Preprimary Incharge read out to the students the special message sent by Mrs. Sushma Berlia, Vice Chairman, Apeejay Education Society. Mr.P.C.Verma, P.G.T Mathematics recited a self-composed poem in order to commemorate the occasion in his own poetic way. The principal’s address at the end motivated the students to emulate in themselves the exceptional qualities of their beloved Chairman to achieve success in life.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
The Independence Day Function at Apeejay School, Pitampura on 13th August was a worth-witnessing kaleidoscope of patriotic fervour, chorus singing, street play, choreography and band display.The two-hour function at open air auditorium was attended and admired by the principal, the respective wing incharges, teachers and all students. It was also marked by the investiture ceremony and oath taking wherein Medha Khanna of class XII-C was deputed as the head prefect. The prefectorial board took a solemn oath of duty and discipline for their office. Besides, the principal also bestowed ties upon all prefects of the students’ council. The function concluded with words of praise and guidance endorsed by the principal Mr. D.K.Bedi for various performances.
INTER SCHOOL DECLAMATION CONTEST
Apeejay school, Pitampura organized an inter school declamation contest on behalf of Delhi School Literacy Project on Monday, 14 September 2009. The task of DSLP is to create an environment for a voluntary work in schools to promote education through ‘Each One Teach One’ programme. The DSLP Literacy project has been a catalyst in making the students sensitive to human cause. In order to take the project further the school hosted an inter school declamation contest where 11 schools from northwest region of Delhi participated. The topic of the declamation was; ‘Literate Women-the harbinger of a new world order’. The speech given by the young participants (from class IX to class XII) were absolutely profound and enlightening. The event was presided over by eminent educationists like Dr Karen Gabriel; Reader-Department of English, St Stephens College, Ms.Geeta Menon; Assistant Editor Children’s World, Dr.C.R.Roy; Reader-Political Science and Mr. Y.P Purang;
Retired Additional Director, Directorate of Education. Mrs. Loomba;Manager- ‘Springdales Education Society’ also attended the function.
The participants were judged on the bases of Presentation, Research on the topic, Diction, Confidence and Originality. Accordingly, the first prize was given to Kriti of Manavsthali School; Rajendra Nagar.The second prize was given to Gunjan of Bhatnagar International, Vasant Kunj. The third prize was bagged by Jasmine of New Era Public School; Mayapuri. The event ended with encouraging and motivating words given by Mrs. Loomba and Dr C.R.Roy.
“THE BOX CITY” – AN EXHIBITION BY PRE-PRIMARY DEPARTMENT
On Saturday, 8 th August, 2009, the students of the pre-primary department presented their project exhibition, “The Box City”. The children displayed a model city using waste boxes, which they painted and decorated using various craft activities. Certain animal figures, cars, trucks, auto rickshaws, traffic lights, a railway station, carts, trolleys, trains, a mother dairy outlet, schools, etc. were made out of the boxes.
The underlying motive was to help the children understand the motto of ‘Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’. Moreover, the parents were distributed hand-outs of rainwater harvesting, recycling of waste material, wastewater management, healthy eating habits, etc. It was truly an enjoyable and learning experience for students as well as their parents.
“YOU, ME AND THEY” – AN EXHIBITION BY PRIMARY DEPARTMENT
The Primary Department organized an exhibition on Sunday, the 2nd of August, 2009 to glorify the selfless spirit of the Animal Kingdom and their existence, titled “YOU, ME and THEY”. Ms. B. Tirkey D.D.E (Retd), Directorate of Education graced the occasion with her presence. The aim of the exhibition was to sensitize the students towards the problems faced by the animals. Holiday homework was planned keeping the above theme in mind. The exhibits were presented in the forms of models, Power-Point presentations, files, charts, banners, cut-outs, slogans etc. based on the Animal Kingdom.
The work of all the children from classes I-V was displayed and around 640 students were actively involved during the exhibition.The students interviewed the Chief Guest and other invitees. The Chief Guest in her message appreciated the effort put in by the students and teachers. She suggested creating an insect museum in the school.
The exhibition was indeed an enlightening, eye-opening and enriching experience for the students and the visitors at large.
VISIT TO PARLIAMENT MUSEUM
On 11th and 12th of August this year, all four sections of class Xth went to the parliament museum and parliament house. Entering the centre stage of our country, they were transported in the reverie of sacrifices and devotion of the countless martyrs and revolutionaries; the backlash of the struggle was exuding in the environment of these monuments. The origin of primitive democracy, its maturation in the minds of the common man and its blossoming into independence was depicted by the actual facts, writings, audios and videos preserved there. It also showed the contemporary India’s face of democracy.
The Dandi march with a virtual Gandhi at the parliament museum was the best part and so was the interactive session with the host there. A short documentary on India’s struggle was fascinating. Mannequins of former politicians were a powerful expression of Indian democracy.
RAKHI MAKING COMPETITION 2009
Apeejay School , Pitampura conducted 5th Rakhi Making Competition for the mothers of classes Nursery and K.G on Saturday July 18th 2009 . Approx. 50
mothers participated in the event and displayed utmost, enthusiasm through their intricate and creative designs.

All the participants received a participation certificate and the winners received an attractively carved trophy along with a certificate of merit from the gracious hands of the principal, Mr. D.K.Bedi. The rakhi’s made through this competition were also being sent to the members of armed forces serving at the border through Dainik Jagran.
J.E.N.E.S.Y.S Japan- East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth
Shivani Verma (Japanese Teacher) and Vidur Katyal went to Japan for an exchange programme under J.E.N.S.Y.S pogramme from 16th to 25th, June 2009. The purpose of the programme was to deepen mutual understanding among young people who will assume important roles in the next generation in their respective countries. Participants got a rare chance to visit Tokyo Edo museum, T. E. P.I.A. and Sapporo Hokuto High school and Nigata Seiryo University.
They visited Indian embassy and came to know more about the bilateral relations of the two countries. They also got the privilege to stay with Japanese families and got a glimpse of Japanese traditions and culture. They attended various lectures and workshops on Japan’s life, culture and economy. They also visited Akihabara the electronics city of Japan and were astounded to see the technology of Japan. They visited two beautiful cities of Japan Hokkaido and Nigata and were spell bound to see the scenic beauty of the countryside. It was learning and enriching experience for them.
TEACHERS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME – VISIT TO MANCHESTER , U.K.
Apeejay School Cluster expands its horizons further when its teachers visited Manchester , UK for a week long exchange programme in the month of June 2009. Mrs. Praveen Kumari from Apeejay School , Pitampura got an opportunity to visit three primary schools and Altrincham Grammar High School at Manchester , UK . She became a part of the regular school and not only attended classes and observed lessons but also interacted with the students and delivered lessons, thereby giving an example of Indian school
teaching.
She also exchanged valued information and ideas about Indian culture and methods of teaching with the co-teachers of the school at Manchester , UK .
She also got an insight into the vast school curriculum and the extensive use of the ICT in these schools. The teachers also visited the magnificent Manchester United Football Club Stadium with a history of 130 years, Lowry and Salford Quays, a 2000 year old cathedral at Chester and a museum cum exhibition of a textile mill established during the Industrial Revolution. It was indeed an enriching experience for the Indian teachers.
A VISIT TO THANGDHAR
Mr. Pankaj Ahuja, Mrs. Anita Sharma and Mrs. Prerna Bhushan along with 23 students went to Thangdhar for camp carnival on 7th June 2009 . It was 3 nights and 4 days camp. During their visit to Thangdhar, students experienced the life of camp. Students performed various activities like valley crossing, rock climbing, Burma Bridge crossing and tracking. They also visited Surkanda Mata Temple which was part of tracking activity. While returning to Delhi , they also visited FRI (Forest Research Institute) at Dehradun. Students gained knowledge related to trees, their uses and diseases of the trees from the different museums of FRI. It was interesting and knowledge gaining experience. Students learnt and practiced various habits and values like discipline, helping and sharing during their visit to Thanghdhar.
INTERNATIONAL INSPIRATION - UK INDIA SPORTS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
Under the project – International Inspiration also known as UK India Sports Development Initiative, Mrs. Renu Nagpal was selected by
the British Council as a core resource group member for the development of the Physical Educatio Cards also known as PEC (India). She along with Ms. Carol Lnkins, a UK Curriulum Consultant and other resource group members worked on developing these PEC( India ) cards from 13th April to 15th July 2009.
She also delivered presentations in Chennai and Delhi on the successful implementation of this project in Apeejay School , Pitampura.
The piloting of the same cards was done in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi . Mrs. Renu Nagpal was a resource person for the workshops held in Chennai from 1st - 3rd June and in Delhi on 7th – 8th July.
