Activities
FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATION :

The school paid a special tribute to their revered chairman, Dr. Stya Paul on the occasion of his 87th Birthday. A special assembly was organized on 4th October 2008. On this occassion, DR. STYA PAUL AWARD was given to one student from primary, one from middle and one from the senior school. This award is given to the students who possess an integrated personality.

CURRICULAR / CO – CURRICULAR 

CLUBS: Club activities supplement academics and give the students practical training which they require in day to day life. In the school various club activities are organized giving an opportunity to the students to display their talent.
  • Eco Club:
    Apeejay School, Pitampura has been appointed as the lead school in this area by the Ministry of Environment.The main aim is to sensitize students towards Eco– Awareness, maintenance of greenery around the school by various Plantation drive programmes, making best out of waste etc. Eco Club is actively involved in promoting environment related issues such as judicial use of paper and Planting trees.

  • INTERACT CLUB:
    The School is a member of Interact Club sponsored by Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown. Interact club has also adopted an institution named ‘SAVERA’ for physically and mentally handicapped children. Every Wednesday they come to our school and spend time with the members of Interact Club.

  • INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS:
    Through this club, we are trying to generate awareness among the students regarding international issues – Political, Economic, Environmental etc. Also the club activities include sensitizing students regarding Human Rights issues. In today’s world, it is necessary for students to know what their rights & duties are and also the functions of the National Human Rights Commission. Sensitizing the students as regards human right violation has become imperative in the fast growing world. Through discussions, debates, the club members try to gain knowledge.

  • LITERARY & CREATIVE WRITING:
    The primary activity of this club is to create an interest among children for reading. There are so many other attractions and diversions that a child of today as a result a child has not been able to develop the reading habit. Consequently, they are poor in writing as well. The activities of this club include reading short stories of different authors, discussions on plot and characterization and also encouraging them to write short stories, poems and etc.

  • HINDI SAHITYA:
    There is a marked downfall in the area of Hindi reading / writing as a result of the invasion by English. In order to keep the interest of children alive and also to expose them to the great Hindi writers and poets, this club has been started. The activities of this club include reading short stories of various Hindi writers, discussing them and writing a summary in their own words.

  • VIVEKANANDA STUDY CIRCLE:
    This club focuses on imbibing value based education amongst the students. Enthusiastic participation in debates, discussions, seminars on Swami Vivekanand and the Vedanta imbibe confidence, faith and firm a firm determination in the young and growing minds. Through this club we are trying to discuss about the social conflicts and problems, which our country is going through. The issues of poverty, unemployment, superstitions, exploitations etc. Students are being encouraged to bring charts, write-ups etc. and they are being critically discussed in the class. The club provides an opportunity to every student to come up with their ideas and opinion on topics related to values, politics and other issues through debates, discussions, dramatics and skits. Students are exposed to various techniques of meditation.

  • ROAD SAFETY CLUB:
    This club provides a platform to the students to discuss safety measures specially on roads. Activities like Poster making, Slogan writing, group discussion, skits and projects were conducted during the year. The students also spread awareness in and around the school by talking to people and children highlighting adoption of safety measures.

  • WILDLIFE CLUB :
    This club focuses activities for young people. Its goals are education awareness and campaigning against possible extinction of some wild species. This was done with the help of Poster Making Competition, Skits, Quiz, Model Making, Extempore and Writing poems. This club is associated with IFAW – International Fund for Animal Welfare which gives certificates & awards to those who participate in competitions organized by them. Based on the programme kit sent by IFAW and Wildlife Trust of India various activities were carried out during the Animal Action Week.

  • MATHS CLUB :
    In this club children learn mathematics and the main aim is to sharpen their mental aptitude using puzzles, quiz, mathematical solutions etc.

  • GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CLUB:
    This club emphasizes on making students aware of latest events happening across the globe. Quiz, lectures etc. are organized throughout the year.

  • ASTRONOMY CLUB:
    The Astronomy Club has formally associated itself with SPACE.(Science Popularization Associations of Communications and Educators). This has been done to inculcate scientific temper among the students by introducing concepts of science through a process of inquiry, experimentation and analysis. The club formally started functioning in the month of November 2004 with Introductory Journey on the Beam of Light. The activities are spread over a period of one year and these include sky observation, interactive multimedia session, visits to the Planetarium etc.

  • DEBATE CLUB:
    This club involves activities that inspires students to present their view points. Various activities like debates, group discussion are conducted throughout the year.

  • SCIENCE CLUB:
    Students will explore themselves by making Project on Plants and Animals and performing experiments to learn and expand their knowledge in the field of science.

  • YOGA CLUB:
    The students learn yoga to achieve the integrated growth of mind, self – management of behavior, thought and attitude. This also help students to develop a disciplined and wholesome personality.

  • ROBOTICS CLUB:
    The aim of this club is to impart training to students, regarding the new technology i.e. Robots. Students actively learn assembling of Robots. Once assembling part is over, they write programs on computer to make robot functional.
  • PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
    • The parent community of Apeejay School, Pitampura is an active body whom the school is in constant touch with.
    • They are invited as guests for various activities and make their contribution as judges for various competitions.
    • Parents and grandparents are also invited to participate in sports activities like the Open Chess Tournament, Open Table Tennis Tournament etc.
    • The Parent Teacher Association also constantly encourages children by recognizing their performance through awards and medals.
CLUB ACTIVITIES

ECO CLUB : WORKSHOP ON WATER QUALITY MONITORING

Mrs. Malini Sridhar, Eco-Club Incharge of the school attended a workshop on Water Quality Monitoring on 16th October 2008 at Govt. Girls Sr. Sec School, Rohini organized by School Health & Hygiene Programme under PP & A component of Yamuna Action Plan II. Various parameters of Water testing were discussed with demonstration of pH & TDS of water taking samples from in and around Rohini area. This measure was to promote awareness among the teachers so that, the students of their school could be sensitized on the quality of water being supplied.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY CLUB – WHITE CANE DAY


On 15th October 2008, International White cane day was observed. Students of Social Responsibility club participated in a March organized by AICOB to sensitize people towards those using white cane. Children were accompanied by teachers and Band club students. They were carrying self made placards and banners to create awareness for the need of empathetic and helping attitude towards visually impaired. March started from Vishram Chowk in Rohini to AIOB office.

And on 16th October 2008, the powerpoint presentation by Mr. Kumar Amlesh from AIOB explained children from classes VIII and IX, the importance of White Cane. Do’s and Don’t’s of behaviour with visually impaired people was discussed.
ASTRONOMY CLUB: MODULE-II : MEASURING THE EARTH

A session on “Measuring the Earth” was conducted on 30th September 2008 for Module-II students of Astronomy Club. The Activity called “EROTSHENES EXPERIMENT” was done by the students. Students calculated the circumference of the earth. Worksheet was given to the students to write their observations. With the help of a GNOMON angle of Sun, it was measured and Mr. Nikhil Pawar at Hyderabad also did the same activity and the data was exchanged telephonically. Students also calculated the circumference of the Earth. And the results were almost accurate. The session was very interesting and encouraging for the students.

ASTRONOMY CLUB: MODULE-I : SOLAR SAFARI


On 29 th September 2008, Mrs. Vandana Sharma and Mrs. Sarita Sharma alongwith 70 students of Astronomy Club Module – I, attended a session on Solar Safari. Mr. Vikrant Narang from Space presented the topic in the form of a quiz. The various questions were asked in an interesting manner. Students took part in the quiz with great enthusiasm. Useful information related to various objects in a solar system was given in a simple language. It was a great learning experience for teachers and students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB : INTER-SCHOOL DISPLAY BOARD CONTEST

Around 40 schools participated in Inter-School Astronomy Display Board contest organized by SPACE in the month of August 2008 and Apeejay School, Pitampura, ranked First among all. Apeejay School, Pitampura is maintaining two display boards of Astronomy. First Display Board has covered Astronaut of the month, Astronomy news and Students experiences. Whereas, Second Display Board is based on theme of the month given by SPACE i.e. “TANGUSKA EVENT”.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE-I) : SEASONS

A workshop on the theme ‘Seasons’ was organized for the students of Astronomy Club (Module-I) on 25th August 2008. The resource person was Ms. Rich and Ms. Jasmeet Kaur from SPACE. It was explained that seasons occur due to revolution of earth around sun on tilted axis. When axis of the earth tilted away from the sun, receives less light and vise versa. The earth’s axis is tilted from perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic by 23.45 degree. This tilted axis gives the four seasons of the year – Summer, Spring Winter and Autumn which were also explained in-depth. Activities were performed with the help of globe to explain the concept and a Quiz was also conducted at the end to recapitulate the concepts. It was a good learning experience for the students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE-I) : RENDEZVOUS IN THE SKY

A workshop on the theme ‘Rendezvous in the Sky’ was organized for the students of Astronomy Club (Module-I) on 22nd August 2008. The resource person was Ms. Gurmeet Kaur from SPACE. It was explained to the students that how one celestial body revolves around the other celestial body? This revolution is because of the gravitational pull of both the bodies and their centre of mass is highly elliptical body. The activity of Opposition , Conjunction & Elongation was also conducted by the students to learn the concept better.
ECO CLUB : CSE GOBAR TIMES - STUDENT REPORTERS

Digvijay Gusian, Apoorva Gulati and Shreya Chauhan have been selected as student reporters of Gobar Times and had gone to Centre of Science and Environment at Indian Habitat Centre along with Mrs. Malini Sridhar for a sensitization programme on Environmental Issues on 19th August 2008.
INTERACT CLUB – INVESTITURE CEREMONY

A resplendent Investiture Ceremony was organised by Interact Club of Apeejay School, Pitampura on July 30, 2008 in the school premises.


The ceremony was attended by many luminary guests like Mr. Aneel Agarwal, President, Rotary Club, Delhi Midtown, Mr. Pawandeep Kataria, Chief Excecutive Interact Club, Mr. Ashok Bharti, Executive Office Secretary, Mr. Rikhy, Member, Rotary Club, Mr. Dinesh Malik, Member and Mr. Pankaj Salooja, Member.

Investiture Ceremony is an annual feature of Apeejay School, Pitampura where outgoing President of Interact Club exchanges collar with incoming President.





The goal of an investiture is to establish in office and celebrate our new president, Sonam Chauhan. The installation of a president is a ceremony of dignity that includes academic traditions and protocols.




The event began with ceremonious lighting of lamp amidst customary vandana sung by the school choir followed by a solo dance performance and a skit with the topic ‘Jaise karm karega manav vaise phal dega bhagwan.’

Mr. Aneel Agarwal congratulated the newly elected president and encouraged her to make her sincere efforts. He challenged the newly invested office bearers to be unique and to exercise leadership with freedom in its right sense. The ceremony was brought to an end vote of thanks and National Anthem.
ECO CLUB: POPULAR SCIENCE LECTURE

The students of XI-B along with their class teacher had visited the National Science Center to attend POPULAR SCIENCE LECTURE on the topic “Rising of Green House Gases and their impact on Crops” given by Dr. Dinesh Chandra Uprety FNA Sc. Emeritus Scientist from IARI New Delhi on 30th of July the students came to know about global warming and the brunt it will have in the organisms and future life.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE –II): COMET

On 24th July 2008, a session on Comet – Life Cycle and its composition was conducted for the students of Astronomy Club (Module – II). The resource person was Ms. Gurmeet Kaur. Students were informed that Comets, relatively small, rocky, icy celestial body revolving around the sun. Astronomers classify comets as shot period comets & long period comets, depending upon how long these bodies take to orbit the sun.

During the session, students made a comet with the key ingredients: ammonia, soya sauce, dust, water & dry ice & named the comet as “APEEJAY COMET”. It was a good learning experience for the students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE-I) : TIME AND TIME ZONES

On 23rd July 2008, a session on Time & Time Zones was conducted for Astronomy Club (Module-I) students. The resource person was Ms. Gurmeet Kaur. The session was based on Time. What is time all about? How can it be calculated without a watch? A proper usage of sundial, calculation of IST &GMT. Students were taken to the ground to observe the sundial under various circumstances. It was really a good learning experience.
ECO CLUB: SHARING EXPERIENCES

The center of science and environment invited Ms Malini Sridhar, Eco-club in charge of Apeejay School, Pitampura along with the student’s audit team, to deliver a lecture to the team of teachers from Vietnam who were getting themselves trained to under the Green School Programme on 4th of July 2008. Recognizing the importance of environmental auditing, the center of science and environment had called Ms Malini Sridhar, Eco-club coordinator of Apeejay School, Pitampura as a resource person along with the student’s audit team, which had won the best students Audit team award to share the experiences on 23rd of July 2008 with the team of teachers who were getting themselves trained to carry out environmental audit under the Green Schools Programme.
ASTRONOMY CLUB : HELI ODYSSEY 2008

On 21st July 2008, a workshop on Solar Eclipse viewing was conducted by SPACE. The resource people were the team of Astronomers and other eminent personalities from SPACE. During the workshop, teachers and students were taught various safety techniques & tricks to view the solar eclipse through various instruments like telescope, pinhole camera etc. 7 more schools from Delhi also attended the workshop. It was a wonderful experience to learn about the measures to look at the solar eclipse.
INTERACT CLUB : A VISIT TO GODHULI SCHOOL

Children of Interact Club visited Meera Bagh campus of Godhuli School on July 17, 2008 with Mrs. Vandana Dhara and Ms. Vratika Jain. Godhuli provides free basic education from Class I to Class III to the children of nearby slum areas. After Class III, these children are put into mainstream M.C.D schools. Its Chairman Mr. Y. P. Anand, Ex-Railway Officer envisioned this school as a path breaking model to culminate his dream of ‘Education for all’ into a reality.





There are around 200 children but a high drop out rate every year is a major cause of concern. Rotary Club, Delhi provides for their uniform, text books and stationary material while handful of other donors help in the smooth functioning of school with their regular interventions. Our children admired the well maintained and clean campus of the school. They spent time with the children there and also interacted with them. The interaction provided our children an insight into the sturdy and thorny life of poor children.
ROAD SAFETY CLUB : A WORKSHOP ON ROAD SAFETY

 
A workshop on Road Safety was organized on 15th July 2008 for Road Safety Club students. Sub-Inspector Satpal from Delhi Traffic Police enlightened the students on various issues like how to ride vehicles, what should be the correct posture while driving and what are the precautions one should take care of while on road. This was done through quiz which made it a very interactive way and the students were also encouraged by giving small gift for their participation. Towards the end, children were shown exhibition put up by mobile exhibition van. Overall it was a wonderful learning experience for the club students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE – II) : LIFE CYCLE OF STARS

On 9th July 2008, the session on Birth of Stars was conducted for the students of Astronomy club (Module-II) students. The resource person was Ms. Gurmeet Kaur from SPACE. She delivered a PowerPoint presentation on life cycle showing different stages of Stars – birth of a star, its life and death of star, composition of star, how color of a star changes. Students were also told that stars of different sizes have different death. The session was very interesting and a good learning experience for students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE-I) : DIRECTIONS

On 7th July 2008, a session on Directions was conducted for the students of Astronomy Club (Module-I). The resource person was Mr. Nikhil from SPACE. Students were taught how to find geographical directions using stars, altitude and azimuth co-ordinate system. The session was full of new facts and knowledge. Students were told how to find directions using stars. It was also demonstrated that how shadow will cast at different times.
ASTRONOMY CLUB: WORKSHOP ON “SUN – MAN’S FRIEND AND FOE”

On 29th April 2008, a workshop for the students of Astronomy Club (Module – I) was conducted in the school. The resource person was Mrs. Shaheen Jain. Students were told many facts about the star which they hardly know. They came upon conclusion that although sun is our friend, it was a sort of a foe too. Some important and interesting information like Sun can be covered with the help of finger or thumb; Sun makes 99.86% of the Solar System’s mass were given in the session. Sun Spots and Construction of Pin-hole camera was also explained. Students acquired various facts about Galileo, the greatest scientist who lost his eye while trying to view the sun through his newly-invented telescope. Students were also told about the importance of Solar Energy and how it can be utilized in day-to-day life.

Parth Gupta of Class-VI C was elected as Head of Astronomy Club (Module-I). It was a good interactive session.
ECO-CLUB: WORKSHOP ON E-WASTE

Toxics link an environment NGO dedicated in bringing toxics related information into public domain organized a workshop at Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar on 25th April 2008. The workshop mainly concentrated on issues related to the health of common man when hazardous chemical substances are released from discarded electronic and electrical equipments. Mrs. Malini Sridhar, Eco-Club Incharge of Apeejay School, Pitampura attended the workshop.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (MODULE – II): VISIT TO JANTAR MANTAR

On 16th April 2008 , students of Astronomy club Module – II went to Jantar Mantar alongwith Mrs. Kiran Nayak and Mrs. Charulata. The resource person Ms. Gurmeet Kaur explained the students about 4 yantras i.e.
  • Mishra Yantra which is made up of 5 yantras – Niyat, Samrat, Dakshinouttrabhritti, Kark Rashi Valleya, Agra Yantra
  • Jai Prakash Yantra
  • Ram Yantra
  • Samrat Yantra or Prince of dials
The students took reading on Ram Yantra to find the local coordinates (Azimuth and Altitude) of Sun.

ASTRONOMY CLUB: A VISIT TO NEHRU PLANETARIUM

On 15th April 2008, students of Astronomy club (Module – I) went to Nehru Planetarium to enlarge their horizons towards the outer space. The visit included Sky Theatre round and Solar walk. In Sky theatre round, students were introduced to a new solar system with eight planets outlisting Pluto and the reasons for outlisting it. Brief introduction about each planet was also given. In solar walk, students were given a rough idea of shrinking our solar system around the gardens of Nehru Planetarium. The actual distance of 5000 km was scaled down to 1mm. Students were then divided into groups each representing a Planet and they had to walk a few steps which represented the distance of Planets from one another. It was a good learning experience.

ROAD SAFETY CLUB – WORKSHOP ON SAFE DRIVING


A two-day workshop for the students of classes IX and XI was organized by Mrs. Sarita Sehgal on 12th and 13th February 2008. It was organized in collaboration with Honda Company. Mr. Harpreet along with his team enlightened the students on how to safely drive a two – wheeler. A Rider Trainer was also installed in the school premised to give practical training to the students. It was a very enriching endeavor and kept the session very interactive throughout. The last hour of the training was kept for training the teachers, the right posture; right speed, turning, distance etc. were discussed with them. Overall it was a very informative programme.

ASTRONOMY CLUB (Module – II): Introduction and Sun

On 18th January 2008 , a session on “Introduction and Sun” was conducted for the students of Astronomy Club – Module II. The resource person for this session was Mr. Vikrant Narang. The students were given a brief introduction to the activities to be undertaken under Module – II. They were also explained what exists inside the sun and the detailed theory of sunspots. It was an interesting session for the students.
ASTRONOMY CLUB (Module – I): Introduction and Journey on the beam of light

On 18th January 2008 , a session on “Introduction and Journey on the beam of light” was conducted for the students of Astronomy Club – Module I. The resource person for this session was Ms. Gurmeet. Students were given introduction to the activities to be undertaken under the Astronomy Club. They were explained how long they will take to reach the farthest point in the universe, if they traveled with the speed of light. The students could appreciate the vastness of the universe.
