Guest lectures, field visits and workshops
are regular features in every semester, as also are the Fresher's
party, Farewell Party and Orientation Programmes which happen every
year. Events which mark the session 2005-2006 at the Apeejay Institute
of Design were Eco- Friendly drive, the colourful SAURA project,
exciting study tours, Design Festival- IRIS, Design Showcase, 5th
Dimension Show amongst many inter- college events.
5th Design Festival- IRIS 2006
(28- 31 March 2006)

The Institute's 5th Design Festival- IRIS 2006 was inaugurated by
Mr. Deepak Sharma- Head, Graphics, NDTV. He also threw open the
5th Dimension Show which showcased the print and animation projects
of the graduating students of the first batch of multimedia. The
show drew the attention of the press and industry alike and many
students have since been placed in reputed organisations like GE,
NDTV, Magic Solutions, etc.
Following the inauguration was a cultural evening, full of colour
and vigour. Dances, songs and a skit kept the students enthralled.
The finale was by the institute's own music band. A long list of
games based on sports, design and general knowledge were lined up
for the enthusiastic students of the competing institutes. The prizes
were sponsored by Nestle India Ltd. while the media partner to the
event were Dainik Jagran, Red FM & S1 channel. The icing on
the cake was the rock concert by Euphoria at Kamani Auditorium led
by Palash Sen. The performance had all our students on their feet,
dancing to the rocking music- a fitting finale
to the Design Festival IRIS- 2006.
Design Showcase
(29 November- 3 December, 2005)
The Annual Design Showcase was inaugurated by the renowned Career
Consellor- Ms. Usha Albuquerque. A press review was organised and
the event was covered by extensively by the print as well as the
electronic media including Hindustan Times, Times of India, Pioneer,
The Week and Doordarshan. The graduating batch of B. Design students
of all the four departments- Interior, Graphic, Fashion & Textile
put up an exhibition of their thesis and design projects. The Chief
Guest was highly impressed by the hard work put in by the students.
The Eco- Friendly Drive
(29 September 2005)
Our students enthusiastically undertook the cleaning of their
immediate environment- their classrooms. This included decorations
too. After wielding the broom in the first half, the students used
their creativity in the second half using eco- friendly material
to design a range of carry bags and posters. The results were amazingly
innovative. These products and posters were put on display at the
exhibition hall.
SAURA Project

The
Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre under the Ministry of Rural Development,
Government of India with the active support of the District Administration
of Rayagada (Orissa) initiated a project to commercialize the hitherto
unknown art of SAURA painting. The tribals were to be taught ways
and means of producing commercially saleable products incorporating
their unique art style- Saura. A team of 6 students accompanied
by a faculty member travelled with designs of ranges of stationery,
fashion garments and accessories that did full justice to the colourful
art form of Saura. The students taught the tribals all about measurments
and applications. The project turned out to be very successful indeed.
Club Activity Week
Besides academic activities the Institute also initiated the formation
of certain Clubs so as to boost co-curricular and cultural activities.
For this the Institute has Cultural Club, Sports Club, Photogrpahy
Club and Literary Club. This year these different Clubs had organised
a Club Activity Week from 22nd to 25th February, 2005 which was
dedicated to various Competitions.
The Cultural Club had organised competitions like Group Dance, Solo
Dance, Skit and so on while Sports Club had organized interesting
games like Lemon & Spoon, Sack Race, Needle & Thread, Basket
Ball Matches, Musical Chair etc. The Literary Club had Competition
with events like "Just a minute", "Debate - Media
is responsible", "Dumb Charades", "Slogan Writing",
"Graffiti", "Quiz Competition" The Photography
Club organised a Photoshoot Competition during the Club Activity
Week. A fitting finale was the elaborate dinner served to all including
our visiting faculty and recently passed out students.All in all
it was a mesmerising, fulfilling and amazing week of celebrations.
Study Tour
Senior students and faculty of Fashion & Textile Department
went on a study trip to Jaipur. Visiting the City Palace, Jal Mahal,
Albert Museum and the ever refreshing 'Chokhi Dhani' to enjoy the
authentic ambience of Rajasthan spiced with the special food and
hospitality, typical of the state. The Amer Fort and the Birla Mandir
were also visited. The purpose of these trips is to enrich every
designer with a variety of sights while enjoying the company of
friends and faculty.
The Interior departments and students of BFA went to Agra and Fatehpur
Sikri to see the architectural monuments and enjoy the Taj Mahotsav
at the time. The marvel of the Taj Mahal and the beauty of Fatehpur
Sikri left the students spellbound.
The Graphics and BMM students visited the Bharatpur via Alwar and
Deegh. Old forts and temples, museums and the bird sanctuary at
Bharatpur were extensively photographed by the students. The Bala
Qila Fort atop a hill was a revelation.
