Students' achievements
Award from Council for Leather Export
Our student Abhishek Lewis won an award from the Council for Leather
Export, Chennai for a Leather Jacket designed and fabricated by him.
He is the only winner from the Delhi Zone, though there were students
from NIFT also to compete. He has been offered an Internship of Rs.
20,000/- per month by a leading manufacturer, however he cannot take
this as he is only in the third year of the Bachelor in Design programme.
There are many buyers for the Jacket but the Council is not prepared
to sell it as it has been given the tag 'Best Design of 2006'. The
jacket is on show at the Chennai Leather Fair.
On a Winning Streak
Winning is a trait which is deeply ingrained in the students of Apeejay
Institute of Design. A trait which recently came to the fore, when
Deepti Ravindran and Rajeev Bajaj - two student of Vth semester, B.
Design, Fashion Design won the First Prize in a Competition organised
by "Jagannath Institute of Communication Design".
Invitations were sent to the students of Textile Design and Fashion
Technology of Apeejay Institute of Design to participate in a day
long Workshop and Competition on the subject of "Surface Ornamentation".
The competition was all about creating a "Mobile cover with surface
Ornamentation". The required material was given by the host Institute
and the rest depended on the participant's creative instincts and
innovative ideas. This is where students of AID scored the highest
and won the Trophy as the First Prize. They also received a Certificate
of participation, a Certificate for winning the First Position and
of course a lot of applause for their achievement.
An opportunity unparalleled!
AN INTERNSHIP AT VERSACE. Many would go to any lengths to avail such
an opportunity. And that's exactly what the students of Fashion and
Textile department of the Institute got, recently. Star One TV Channel,
in collaboration with Lakme Fashion House conducted a Nationwide "Design
Talent Hunt". The hunt was for the most talented Fashion Designer
of the country. The winner's booty would be an Internship program
with one of the top notch global designers - 'VERSACE'. The winner
would also get a chance to showcase his/ her talents at the 'Lakme
India Fashion Week ' 05". To draw participation, posters were
put up at the college premises and an entry form collection box was
also placed at the lobby. The Vth semester students of Fashion and
Textile department of the Institute participated in full strength
and submitted one design each of their own choice. After the entries
were scanned, Sagar Kumar Bhatt qualified for the second round, which
would now involve producing the designed garment. Two more students
namely Shweta Kesarwani and Rajiv Bajaj were also selected for the
waiting list.
This was a big confidence building exercise for the students and an
opportunity for them to test their innovation and skills in real world
situation.
